In years 1546-1547, the parish priest Primož Trubar served here. In the story "Fairy tales and tales about Gorjanci", the writer Janez Trdina vividly described these places. The municipality has quite a few well-preserved medieval castles such as Gracarjev turn, Vrhovo and Prežek. Šentjernej is known for the production of wine cviček, for traditional horse races, for blessing horses on St. Stephen's Day, caroling and for Jernejevo - the holiday of the municipality on the occasion of St. Jernej at the end of August. The Carthusian monastery Pleterje, founded by Herman II. Celjski at the beginning of the 15th century, stands in the sheltered Šentjernej valley below Gorjanci.
Old folk crafts, pottery and blacksmithing are still preserved in the area. High-altitude hunting is also possible on the slopes of Gorjanci, and fishing is most widespread on the Krka River and its tributaries.
CVIČEK, SINGING AND ROOSTER, which is also in the coat of arms, the municipality received its distinctive sign and its place among the most important places in the country.
The sports adventure ended with a warm welcome. ignac was met by his wife Ria and son Ignac, the whole family, friends and fellow citizens, as well as Mayor Jože Simončič and Deputy Mayor Janez Selak.
Šentjernej is becoming an increasingly popular starting point for all types of cycling, like road, mountain or gravel cycling, which is becoming increasingly popular. Ignac regularly rides on domestic routes and explores new possibilities and routes on Gorjanci hills, which stretch along the Croatian border. The surrounding hills and fields also offer a really great escape into nature and disconnection in a unique way.
